GAMMON TROPHY WINNERS 2009 - Tehidy Park for the 7th Time!

Team members

Shirley Clark,Clare Solomon, Lyn Brookes, Hilary Wood, Gloria Sandow,Chris Williams, Rachael Phillips, Captain Caroline Phillips, Nikki Hodge & PatMacMichael

On a glorious day, defending title holders Tehidy Park defeated Perranporth 5½/1½ at Trevose and in so doing, set the record, by winning this scratch club team event for the 7th time since the inauguration in 1970. The final score does not reflect the quality of play from both sides and how closely the matches were fought. The 1st 2 matches went down the 19th. Rachael Phillips was dormy 2 up at 17 but Jan fought back and with a birdie at 18 and she finally won with a 4 down 19. Fiona was 3 down at one stage but again came back with a birdie thrust only to lose on the 19th. Two other matches ended on the 18th so the final was tightly contested.

Well done Tehidy for the Record!

2nd TEAM MATCHES V. WILTSHIRE at KINGSDOWN and V. DORSET at YEOVIL -14th - 15th AUGUST

2nd County Team:

Suzanne Courtney, Sara Taylor, Lynn Saget, Kirsty Hopkins, Jan Harrison, Bev Van and Sam Giles with County Vice-Captain Jean Reed

Cornwall played their 1st inter-county match against Wiltshire in fine weather. Although they lost 6/3 many of the matches were decided on the 18th green. The team went on to play Dorset at Yeovil and also lost 6/3. After losing the morning foursomes 2/1, the singles were hard fought. A notable mention, 14 year old Samantha Giles was 4 down after 6 holes, but she bravely clawed her way back to win on the last green! Sadly Cornwall will not be in the final to defend the Shield they won in the inaugural event last year.

Gloucestershire will represent the South West at the County Finals in September.

Final Results: Gloucestershire: 5, Somerset: 3½ Dorset: 3 Devon: 2 Cornwall: 1 Wiltshire: ½

4th Day Thursday: It was cool and cloudy for the morning foursomes. Once again the 3 matches ended on the 18th and all 3 were halved. Judith and Jan playing for the 1st time together were 2 down at the 17th but won the last 2 holes. A great comeback! Sun came out for the singles. Last Day Tomorrow Cornwall play Dorset.

3rd Day Wednesday: The hot & sunny conditions is making the course hard and bouncy. Cornwall took on Wiltshire and the foursomes resulted 1½/1½. In the singles there was a fine win for Sarah-Jane, who has yet to be defeated and also for Judith Ryder. With remaining matches lost it was all up to 14 year old Samantha who played a girl a year younger. Sarah-Jane had a fine win over Jo Hodge and Samantha also took the honours. Gloucestershire were just the better team with 3 + handicap players who are in the home international side. It was a good day and spirits are still high! Tomorrow Cornwall play Wiltshire.

Other Counties: Devon beat Wiltshire 8½/½ Somerset:5 Dorset:4

1st Day Monday: Warm and benign conditions prevailed for the 1st day of the 6 Counties Match Week. Cornwall met Devon in their 1st encounter. SPRING MEETING – KILLIOW GOLF CLUB – 18TH MAY 2009

CUP WINNERS - JANE STEDMAN, MARY JONES & ANN CLEMO with President Jean Rowling

There was a very good entry for this year's Spring Meeting. 97 Ladies battled in strong winds but fortunately it stayed dry. The management and catering at Killiow was excellent and players enjoyed the new venue.

In their first match of the year Cornwall defeated Devon 5/2 at Newguay! Well done!

CORNWALL V. STAFFORDSHIRE

TREVOSE GOLF CLUB - SATURDAY, 14TH MARCH

STAFFORDSHIRE retain the WEDGWOOD BOWL!

A sunny spring day heralded the 25th anniversary of this match played in the usual amicable spirit. Many of the morning singles were closely contested but Staffordshire held the upper hand at lunch by 1 point. The after noon fourballs also went Staffordshire's way. Staffordshire winning the match 7½/4½. This was a good day enjoyed by all.

This annual friendly match was started by Barbara Etherington (Staffs. C. Captain) in 1984 who thought a weekend in Cornwall would inspire her team! Her parents lived at Trevose and very kindly sponsored the 2 days. Courtesy of the course was granted and a match against the Cornwall Ladies was arranged on Saturday followed by a match against the Trevose Men on Sunday. Such was the success of the weekend that it has remained an annual fixture ever since and proved excellent match-play practice. The Wedgwood Bowl was given in 1987 and has been won by Cornwall on several occasions. This popular event has become the spring-board for the competitive golfing season!
